Mobile app for Winnipeg Smart City Initiative

About the project
Design an app concept for Winnipeg Smart City initiative that would provide people with news, alerts and access to municipal services from the city.
Overview
For the first iteration of the concept it was decided to focus on 4 key areas:
- Important alerts and news
- Promotion of current and upcoming events across the city
- Easier access to municipal services and locations
- Local information relevant to a registered user
Newsfeed, events calendar & locations
Important alerts, announcements, news, reminders and inquiries from the city are gathered into a feed with the ability to customise by the user what appears on it. Upcoming events, as well as important or personally relevant dates, are placed in a calendar. The map provides help with locating various points of interest across the city, from hospitals to police stations, including downtown events, and more.
Services
Services provided by the city are gathered and categorised on the Services tab. From here users will be able to submit public as well as private inquiries, track their statuses, and add their meter readings.
User profile
Information directly relevant to the user is collected and displayed on their profile for quick access. This includes their snow zone and garbage pickup days, created or voted on inquiries and meter reading submitted through the app.
Registration
Apart from the regular registration process, apps would also allow users to quickly register by scanning the barcode on the back of recently introduced IDs.
